Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

Dear Friends,

Life in Romania continues to have interesting turns and twists. Ruben is doing a great job at keeping things going there. But now, he has all of the children and teenagers home for at least twelve days because the government has decided to close all of the schools for precautionary measures with the virus. So, with spring rains and mud everywhere, inside activities are a must. There are some projects that need to be done including spring cleaning in the children’s rooms.

Cosmin attended a Christian camp a couple of weekends ago. He really enjoyed it. He invited one of his friends from school who has a rough home life. The boy had a great time. We were glad that we could help him to go. Nicu had his first program for women’s day at his school. He was so excited and proud to be able to be a part of it. Bogdan was in another chess tournament for the high schools in Lugoj. He got first place. He was very excited.

Last weekend, Ruben took all of the children and teenagers to Timisoara to church. They had been invited by a family in the church to come to their house for lunch and the afternoon. They enjoyed an American style lunch with hamburgers on the grill and soda. Our children loved it. They also played games all afternoon with the family’s teenagers. No one wanted to go home. This family had only met Ruben once but they were willing to open their home to him and all of our children and teenagers. That is truly Christian hospitality.

Our medical clinic continues to serve the people of our village. Our doctor has been so faithful for so many years. We are very thankful for her. Also, our church in Lugoj came out one Saturday to serve us at the orphanage. They cleaned everything spotless. These are two great examples of putting our faith into action. And our ministry has been really blessed by it.

Karen continues her recovery in America. She is getting stronger each day. Her return date to Romania is still not known. Thank you for praying for her. Thank you for praying for our ministry in Romania, too. God continues to provide for all of our needs there through your generous financial gifts. Enjoy this Spring!

With our love,
Ruben, Karen and Bianca
