Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

February, 2020

Dear Friends,

Life can be very unpredictable at times but we always have the assurance that God already knows and He has us protected in the palm of His hands. Karen is still in the USA. She ended up having a nine hour very extensive surgery. She is home from the hospital now and feeling better. At this point, we don’t know what her recovery time will be and how long she will be in the USA. But it will be at least a couple of months. We want to thank all of you who have been praying for her and who have reached out to her. It has really touched her heart to see and experience the love of so many people during this time. Thank you for being there for her.

Things in Romania have kept Ruben very busy. It has been a mild winter so the children and teenagers have been able to do outside activities. Ruben took everyone on a bike ride to the next village to spend their money at the store there and play in the park. They also went for a hike up to the fortress in our village and spent the afternoon exploring, eating and having fun. Plus, they have gone ice skating several times. Please pray for Ruben as he is taking on many roles, not only at the orphanage but also with his own family.

Maria, one of our teenagers, is in Spain right now. Her school chose 14 students to go and experience and work in another culture. She works every day at a local store. She is participating in many “firsts” in her life like riding on an airplane. She is having a great time. We are glad that she was able to go and see another country.

A friend of ours from Germany is helping us with the food bank now. He is going to help us finish off the two extra rooms that we have there for a clothing give-away room and a waiting room. He is donating carpets for the main room where the food is distributed. It has been really cold in the building this winter so that will help to warm things up a bit. He has blessed us with more table and chairs, too. Thank you so much for all of your help. Lidl grocery store gave us a whole shipment of chocolate after Christmas for the food bank. Everyone is having their sweet tooth satisfied. New families continue to come. We are glad we can help them.

We want to thank all of you who helped to give money towards the boiler. We have reached our goal. Praise the Lord! Thank you for your generosity and for your faithful support throughout the year. God is good and everything is being taken care of. If any of you would like to contact Karen while she is in the USA, her cell phone number is 217-408-8380. Please continue to pray for her, the Popet family, the children and teenagers at Beraca and the continuing work in Romania.

With our love,
Ruben, Karen and Bianca
