Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

May 2018

Dear Friends,

There is one more month left of school. Everyone is starting to have final exams and papers to write. They can’t wait for June 15 to come when school will be done. It has been hot outside which makes it even harder to stay inside and study. Please pray for the children and teenagers this month that they can all finish well.

The cherry trees at the farm this year are full of cherries. The children and teenagers have been going there daily to eat them right off of the trees. They taste the best that way. They also like to play with all of the baby rabbits and cats which are there. Plus, we have a new baby piglet. It is a great place for them to spend a couple of hours.

The younger children enjoy helping Ruben put the grass collected from the mower into the pickup truck. They like going to the farm with him and feeding the grass to the cows. Some of them like to help Karen pull weeds in the yard. They are also always eager to help with any project going on outside.   So, to show our appreciation, we took them to Lugoj one Saturday morning to play on the big inflatables there plus ride their bikes in the park and have ice cream. They felt special to go without the older teenagers. It was fun to watch them play.

May 1 is a national holiday in Romania. Some friends of ours from Deta came with a group from their church. We had a big barbeque for everyone. We also took a long walk with them, played soccer and had a bonfire. Some of the people from Deta are part of their church’s worship team so we had a time of worship and sharing, too. It was a special day.

We were blessed this past month to participate in a service where Cipi Mircov, one of our older boys who had finished school and left, gave his testimony in church of how he gave his life to the Lord. It was very emotional both for him and us. Afterwards, he treated us to pizza. He will get baptized this Sunday in Arad. We are so excited to see fruit from our work here with the children. A van load of our teenagers are going to be a part of the baptism service.

We are so thankful to have each of you as a part of our ministry here with your finances, prayers and interest in Romania. It encourages us and helps to keep us going. We pray that each of you who are a mother has a wonderful day on Mother’s Day. May God bless you in a special way.

With our love,

Ruben, Karen and Bianca
