Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

Dear Friends,

The daily routine of school has started. Our high school students are up at 6:15 a.m. and gone by 6:50 a.m. It is a good thing that it doesn’t take them long to get ready. By 8:15 a.m., our last group of children leaves. There is peace and quiet for a few hours in the morning. Between 12 and 1 p.m., children start coming home from school. Then, the “fun” begins with homework. Some days they can be working on it until after dinner.

Cipi Giura has started his classes at university. He says that they are challenging. He has several classes of English, Romanian and French as he wants to be a translator. He has found a group of friends to go to church with on Sundays. He is adjusting well. We are excited to see what all God has in store for him.

Last Saturday, we went with all of the children and teenagers to visit our widows again. We had a big sack of food to give to them. It always brings such joy to our hearts to see the smiles on their faces when we walk in. Even more than the food, they appreciate us spending time with them. There is one young widow who is so sad. She has had a hard life. She doesn’t know the Lord. Please pray for her that she will allow us to minister to her and share the hope of Jesus that she so desperately needs.

After we visited the widows, we had a wiener roast and bonfire with so’ mores. Some friends of ours came with hotdogs, chips, cupcakes and the so’ mores. Some of our teenagers ate more hotdogs than we care to admit. It was a beautiful evening outside. Everyone had a great time.

We have hired our social worker full-time. We fixed up the office again for her. She is getting all of our paperwork in order and up to date. She is a huge blessing for us. There were a lot of things we knew needed to get done but there just weren’t enough hours in the day for us to do them all. She is a wonderful Christian young woman. She brings peace to the orphanage.

Some of you may have read about the bad storms in Romania. God protected us here in Jdioara. We only had a couple of tiles move out of place. Lots of trees and signs were down as well as other damage in many parts of Romania. We only lost power for a couple of days as compared to a week or more in other places. Please pray for other parts of Romania that were hit harder than we were.

We continue to thank God for His protection and provision for our work here in Romania. He is an awesome God.   Thank you for being a part of that provision through your gifts and prayers. May you be blessed in a special way.

With our love,

Ruben, Karen and Bianca
