Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

August, 2017

Dear Friends,

Hot has been the word for this summer, not only in America but also in Romania. The temperatures have been around 100 degrees in Romania for most of the summer. Since there isn’t air condition, our children have gone to the river swimming every afternoon. They have also done a lot of fishing with their hands while they are in the river.

The groups of friends that came to stay with the children and teenagers while we have been in the USA have done a fantastic job. They did exercises with them every morning. Those who came and participated every day got to go to the mall on Saturday of that week. Everyone showed up. So, Saturday they took a trip to Timisoara. The little ones got to enjoy the play area with slides and trampolines, etc. The teenagers wanted to just walk around and check out things in the stores. Each evening, the group had devotions with the children and teenagers. We are thankful for them investing in our children and teenagers not only doing fun things, but spiritually as well. They took everyone into Lugoj for church most of the Sundays. Some of the group did art projects with the teenagers and children. They painted some pictures which turned out beautiful. The groups also did many other games and crafts. They kept everyone busy. We want to say thank you to all of those who came to supervise so we could take a break to see family and friends.

This past Sunday our church in Lugoj had a baptismal service followed by a meal. The church was celebrating 15 years since it started. Our teenagers got to go. It was a special day. It is wonderful to see our church grow by adding new believers.

We have an exciting update about Cipi Giura. Because his grades were so good during high school and on the exams, he has qualified to go to university without paying tuition. We are so proud of him. He will be staying at a Christian foundation which provides rooms and meals for college students. It is a great place to meet Christian friends who have the same desire for an education and to pursue God. We look forward to seeing what all God has in store for him these next four years.

Our time in America has been refreshing and fun. We will be leaving on August 24. We would appreciate everyone’s prayers for safe travels as we return to Romania. Thank you again for all of your financial support and prayer support. We feel your prayer covering. And, God continues to take care of our needs through all of you. May God bless each of you this fall as school starts and schedules change.

With our love,

Ruben, Karen and Bianca
