Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

March 2016

Dear Friends,

Spring is beginning to come to Jdioara with many warm days and lots of rain. The children are glad to be able to play outside after school. It makes it easier on us and the workers when they can release a lot of their energy by being outside. Everyone has a pair of roller blades now, including the younger ones who have beginner skates. Our skateboard park is full of children in the afternoon.

We took all of the children and teenagers to the indoor waterpark in Deva again this year. Some of them had never been. They all had a great time. Mosie, one of our four year olds, was even brave enough to go down the big slide with Karen. After a fun afternoon, we went to MacDonald’s before heading home.

We have had two visitors this month. Our good friend, Ryan, came for a week. He helped us in many ways. He took and picked up the children from school in Lugoj. He spent a lot of time playing games with the children and doing fun things outside with them. Everyone loves it when he comes. We also have a young lady from Germany staying with us for about a month. She is doing her internship for college. It is great to have someone help the children with their German homework. This is the first year that they have had German. It has been a challenge for them. She also has helped with other homework and watched the children for us. She is a big blessing.

We went to visit one of our widows the other day. She had been sick for a couple of weeks. It means so much to them to have someone visit them. She told us that we were her joy and whenever she saw us that she could then keep on going. It was humbling. We are working on getting firewood for them for this upcoming year. It is best to get it in the spring so it can be dry and burn better. We are thankful for special friends who have provided the funds to purchase the firewood.

Our teenagers went to a youth meeting with teens from two other churches. They had a worship team that everyone enjoyed. The message was very appropriate for teenagers. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed fellowship and getting to know one another. We are thankful for places where our teens can go and be around other teens who love Jesus.

God is so faithful to meet all of our needs. A dentist from Timisoara has decided to come every two weeks to work on our children’s and teenagers’ teeth. Some of them came to us with a lot of problems. It is so wonderful to be able to get their teeth fixed without having to make appointments and go to Lugoj several times. God is so good. We also are so thankful for each of you who are faithful to pray for our ministry and to give to it financially. Together, lives are being changed.

With our love,

Ruben, Karen and Bianca
