Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

Dear Friends,

Looking out the window at all of the little children running around and playing reminds me of years ago when we had 10 children under five years old. God was so faithful to help us take care of those children. Once again, we feel His presence here and know through His grace and faithfulness, we will be able to nurture and raise this new group of children.

The children are now busy all week with school and homework and other chores that they need to do. But, they did get a break a couple of weeks ago. They got to go see the theater version of Beauty and the Beast in Timisoara. The girls were dressed in dresses and had their hair curled. The boys were dressed in nice pants and shirts. They all felt so important. They enjoyed the show a lot. It was a great evening for all of them.

Rebeca, who is here helping us, is giving some of the children piano lessons. A few of them are learning quickly and like it a lot. She also does fun things with them like having a game night and baking desserts with them. It is great to have someone closer to the age of the teenagers who enjoys doing activities with them as well as imparting the things of God with them.

Our church in Lugoj has grown a lot. A group of people from the town right next to Lugoj has started to come. They want to make our church their home church and get involved. We now have the potential to do more things to reach out to the community around us with the gospel as well as to help the newcomers in our church grow in the Lord. It is exciting to see the change in the church.

Last Sunday we had Harvest Day at our church. The front of the church was filled with fruit and vegetables from people’s harvest. The service was centered on thanksgiving to God. All of the songs, prayers and scriptures were about bringing thanks to God for His abundant blessings. After the service, we had a meal together as a church. We had pizza, cookies, and fruit and ended with ice cream. It was a feast. Our children loved it. It was a good time of fellowship with everyone, too.

God continues to pour out His blessings and grace on our work here in Romania. Through your generous giving, we are able to carry out the vision God gave us. Thank you so much for your financial gifts and for your prayers. Together we can make a difference in many people’s lives. May you too be richly blessed by God’s presence in your lives.

With our love,

Ruben, Karen and Bianca
