Karen & Ruben Popet – Beraca Orphanage in Jdioara, Romania

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.   James 1:27

August, 2015

Our children have enjoyed this summer a lot. It has been very hot and dry in Romania. So, the children have gone swimming almost every day. They have a great time. And, they are glad to be able to cool off. Everyone has also enjoyed doing things with the two American families who are staying at the orphanage while we are gone. The five new children who just came are blossoming. In the beginning, the two smaller ones couldn’t talk at all. The next two older ones couldn’t communicate very well. Now, they are all starting to talk. You can see life coming into their eyes, too. It is a privilege to be able to give these children a chance at life.

The American group who came this summer brought backpacks for 25 of the children at Pesac and for all of our children. Some friends of ours who are now helping us with our ministry in Pesac are going to visit there this month. They are taking the backpacks and doing a children’s program again. It is fun to bless these children with the things for school. They are so excited to receive the new things. It also helps them to stay in school.

The Christian school in Lugoj has increased its classes this year to include fifth and sixth grades. In the past, there were no openings for new students. However, the enrollment is now open for new students in fifth and sixth grades. When we visited the school, there was such a peaceful atmosphere. The school curriculum also includes Bible classes, learning scripture and praise songs and more extensive English classes. So, we are going to send four of our children there this fall. Claudiu, Bianca, Dani and David will be going. They are the ones who will be in fifth and sixth grade. There is also one opening in second grade. This is the class that David will be in. We believe it is a great opportunity for these children to develop more scholastically and spiritually. It costs about $100 per child per month. So, if anyone would like to help support these children, please let us know. And, we would ask that you please pray for them as this is a big step for them.

We have enjoyed seeing many of you during our visit in America. It has been wonderful to be reunited with our daughter Marta and to spend time with her. Karen’s Dad had a major operation and is recovering well now. We are thankful we can be here for him as well. Thank you for all of your prayers and financial gifts. They allow us to continue to care for our children and many others as well.

With our love,

Ruben, Karen and Bianca
